TIMEPERIOD:
Q III-IV

LANGUAGE:English/Swedish

EXAMINER
Nils-Erik Molin Prof

PREREQUISITES
MTF059 / 082 /090 Optics or a similar course in Optics.

COURSE AIM
To get the student familiar with the foundations of modern optical measuring methods and to apply these methods in measurements.

CONTENTS
A detailed plan for the course is distributed at the start of the course.

Period III
Threated at the lectures are subjects as: Basic soncepts. Iterferance, Diffraction, Holography, Moiré methods,Speckle methods and Photoelasticity.

Demonstrations are shown about Diffraction, optical filtering, Schlieren, Shadowgraph, TV holography, Pulsed TV holography and Speckle methods and Projected fringes.

Depending of the number of participants in the course, either 2-3 smaller laboratory projects or one larger project are performed in the areas mentioned above. A report is written for the projects.

This part ends with a written axam of 4 hours.

Period IV

Threated in the lectures are subjects as: Photometry, Digital image processing, Fringe analysis, Other optical measuring methods and Construction of optical devices. Invited lectures are given on construction of optics and the use of optical metrology in industry.

Demonstrations are given of High speed cameras, Infra Red ( IR) cameras and Laser Doppler anemometry.

A laboratory work is performed with Opto-sensors. A small project on construction of an optical system is also done. A report is written for each project.

TEACHING
The education consists of lessons, demonstrations and laboratory projects.
Attendance at demonstrations and laboratory projects are compulsary.
