TIMEPERIOD: LANGUAGE:English/Swedish EXAMINER Mats Danielsson Univ adj PREREQUISITES Psychology and Sociology (ARP005) COURSE AIM The aim of the course is to make the students familiar with psychological theories, conceptions and methods and their applications within the field of man-machine interaction. The knowledge may be applied to the design of systems that combines efficiency with user friendliness and a good work environment with special emphasis on different conditions among users in terms of age and gender. CONTENTS Introduction (6%). The relation between cognitive ergonomics and cognitive psychology. Summary of man-machine studies. Theories of information processing. Psychological process (66%). Stress and coping. Signal detection. Decision making and judgement processes. Memory. Skill acquisition. The psychology of language. Mental models. Principles of design (28%). Application of cognitive psychology to the analysis of user interfaces of information systems. Operating highly automatic processes. Decision support system. TEACHING Lectures, seminars, and compulsory laboratory work and assignments. EXAMINATION Written examination. Laboratory work and assignments are mandatory.
