ARF001 Technical Acoustics 6.0 ECTS credits
TIMEPERIOD: LANGUAGE:Swedish EXAMINER Anders Ågren Prof PREREQUISITES General eligibility for admission. COURSE AIM The course shall give knowledge of: - basic technical acoustics and the mechanisms that govern the generation of noise from different constructions - room acoustics and buildings acoustics - a number of methods to reduce noise from machines and in rooms. - principles for loud speaker design. CONTENTS Basic acoustics. Sound field theory. Basic concepts and definitions. Measurement technology and equipment. Introduction to analogue and digital signal processing. Microphones, accelerometers, sound level meters, and level and spectrum analysers. Machinery acoustics and structure borne sound. Noise excitation and sound radiation. natural vibrations, forced vibrations, structure mobility and vibration propagation. Vibration isolation. Noise control of industrial machines. Noise excitation and propagation from rotating machines and from impacts. Fan noise and silencers. Prediction methods for a couple of applications. Building acoustics. Room acoustics, sound insulation, sound absorption. Prediction methods to calculate the sound levels in small rooms and in industrial halls. Loudspeaker technology. Working principles, design, sound absorption, resonance phenomena, electrical filters, predictions and measurements. Project work . Projects are carried out that specialise in acoustical problems. the projects may have applications that lie in the main study direction or interests of the students. Some examples can be design and evaluation of loudspeakers, measurement and prediction of room acoustics in concert rooms, analysis of noise sources, design of computer software for acoustic predictions. TEACHING Mainly lecturing, compulsory experiments, and a project work. The lectures are mainly about theory and real-life applications, there are also some numerical examples given. The experiments are designed to illustrate the theoretical parts. The project must be summarised in a written report and be orally presented in front of the class. EXAMINATION Written examination at the end of the course. Written project report. Written experiment report. COURSE GRADE SCALE: Fail, 3, 4, 5 ITEMS/CREDITS
