PREREQUISITES
Possess a bachelor's degree in science or 120 university points in the field of science or equivalent and a good knowledge in English.

COURSE AIM
Module 1: To provide the student with an understanding of those characteristics of human learning and perception that are relevant to ergonomics, and how to use this information in ergonomic analysis and design.
Module 2: To provide the students with an understanding in cognitive and information processing applied to individuals at work. It will also provide a systematic overview of relevant measuring techniques.


CONTENTS
Module 1: Human learning and perception. Basic concepts of human learning, including Rasmussen's model, classical and operand conditioning, serial learning, factors affecting recall, forgetting, long and short term memory, chunking, transfer of training, whole vs. part-task training, and motivational factors in learning and their relation to ergonomic analysis and design. Characteristics of human sensation and perception, effects of cognition, experience, motivation, self concept, cognitive complexity and situational factors on perception including ergonomic analysis & design implications.
Module 2: Cognitive ergonomics. Attention and perception; learning, Information processing, Human-Computer Interaction, Mental Models, Decision making, Role of memory, Visual search, Human performance measurements.


TEACHING
Module 1: In the form of lectures and discussions.
Module 2: Lectures and compulsory practical exercises, mainly on the computer.
