TIMEPERIOD: LANGUAGE:English EXAMINER Michael Kaplan, Univ of Central Florida, USA Prof PREREQUISITES Possess a bachelor degree in science or 120 university points in the field of science or equivalent and have a good knowledge in English. Introductory Ergonomics, familiarity with experimental psychology, Some acquaintance with one or more of the following subjects is desirable but not essential: industrial, social, learning psychology, cultural anthropology, public administration in international settings. Interest in contributing to and helping to develop cultural ergonomics would be welcome. COURSE AIM Cultural Ergonomics is an evolving sub-field of ergonomics/human factors. It deals with human factor issues in relation to the cultural milieu in which they occur and is a coalescence of topical areas drawn from ergonomics and related fields. Both from analytical and applied problem-solving standpoints, it is concerned with how cultural factors influence and interact with the human performance and human interfacing in work environments world-wide. The object of this course is to introduce to the student the concept of cultural ergonomics and to explore current elements of the field. CONTENTS The concept of cultural ergonomics, Categories of cultural concern: (1) Interaction of cultural variables and standard areas of human factor engineering. (2) Cultural factors in the ergonomics of industrial developing countries and the implementation of technology transfer (3) Comparative approaches to safety issues. (4) Cultural factors in organizational design, function and management (5) Cultural issues affecting training. Research need, Codification of information in the field.
