ARA010 Anatomy and Physiology 6.0 ECTS credits | |
TIMEPERIOD: LANGUAGE:English/Swedish EXAMINER Stig Karlsson Univ adj PREREQUISITES General eligibility for admission. COURSE AIM The course will give basic knowledge of the formation and functions of the human body as well as physiological applications at work for measurement and estimation of physical work load. The course will take into account human needs and conditions in terms of gender, age, disability, ethnic, cultural and social background. The course will give the basics of anatomy and physiology to enable further studies in work place design, psychology, and physical environment. CONTENTS Anatomy (25%). Cells and body tissues, homeostatic control mechanisms and the balance of organ systems. Musculoskeletal system: general; skeletal system, muscular system, joints, specific; vertebral column, shoulder and neck, arm and hand, hip and knee joints from a functional perspective. Nervous system. Endocrinology. Organ physiology (16%). Integumentary system. Special senses, eye and ear. Liver and kidneys. Fundamentals of work physiology (23%). Muscular and nerve physiology, respiratory system, circulatory system and human temperature regulation. Applied work physiology (35%). Physical work loads. Measurement techniques: anthropometry and its applications. Physical activity and capacity, heart rate, lung ventilation, oxygen consumption, static and dynamic work, EMG technique, technical and physiological measurements of thermal comfort, biomechanics, lifting and carrying. Recommendations and limit values for total, local and thermal work loads. TEACHING Lectures and laboratory work. Compulsory laboratory work and assignments. EXAMINATION Written examination and approved laboratory work. Correction of examination according to alternative A in ÒRegler för tentamenÓ. Course grades as above.
