PREREQUISITES
ABM006, ABT021 or equivalent.

COURSE AIM
The course will give students extended knowledge and good engineering ability of rock excavation engineering and the scientific bases for rock excavation unit operations.

CONTENTS
Theory of rock drilling, rock blasting and rock handling. Ongoing research. Rock drilling, rock blasting, loading and transport, sealing, rock reinforcement, computer methods.
Mechanical rock excavation methods, prediction of penetration rate and tool consumtion.
Quality specifications and measuring techniques in rock excavation.
Environmental planning, environmental impact assessment.
Operation and maintenance of underground constructions.
Project work.
If possible a study trip to equment manutacturers and rock construction work site will be made.

TEACHING
Class room lectures and exercises, project work, field visit if possible.
