TIMEPERIOD: LANGUAGE:English EXAMINER Cat McCann Univ lekt PREREQUISITES English A 1, 15 credits or the course Ten Points. COURSE AIM The aim of the course is to improve the oral and written language skills of the students, and to provide knowledge about the main aspects of English phonetics and grammar. The course should also provide the students with increased knowledge of the British and American society and English literature and culture. CONTENTS Note: Modules that do not end with a written test are normally compulsory. Module 1. Oral proficiency (4.5 credits. Module 2. Cultural studies (1.5 credits). Module 3. Grammar (3 credits). Module 4. Written proficiency (3 credits). Module 5. Literary studies (3 credits). TEACHING EXAMINATION Module 1. Written test in phonetics (1.5 credits). Continuous assessment of pronunciation and oral fluency (1.5 credits). Written test in vocabulary (1.5 credits) Module 2. The students will be graded on project work including the oral presentation (1.5 credits). Module 3. Written test in general and English grammar (3 credits). Module 4. Translation (1.5 credits). Essay (1.5 credits). Module 5. At the beginning of the course the students and teacher are to agree on the form of the examination. Students who do not pass the ordinary tests will have the opportunity to take a resit. All tests will be graded as above. To receive Pass with Distinction for the course the students are required to have Pass with Distinction for at least 10.5 credits; which should include one of the translation tests and an essay.
