KMA005 Transport phenomena 6.0 ECTS credits
TIMEPERIOD: Q I LANGUAGE:Swedish EXAMINER Peter Sedin Lektor PREREQUISITES MTF008, MAM142 or MAM075 COURSE AIM The aim of the course is to give knowledge of transport phenomena, i.e. momentum, heat and mass transfer, and how transport phenomena are applied in chemical engineering. CONTENTS Momentum transfer (40 %): Ideal and non-ideal fluids, friction, viscosity, compressible and laminar/turbulent flow. Continuity , Bernoulli's, Navier-Stoke's and Boundary-Layer equations are derived and applied for simple flow. Examples of applications are pressure drop in pipes, flow in porous beds and flow around submerged bodies. Dimensionless numbers, Buckinghams pi-theorem. Heat transfer (20 %): Conduction, Fourier's law, free and forced convection. Heat transfer coefficient. Heat transfer equipment. Mass transfer (40 %): Diffusive mass transfer, Fick's law. Convective mass transfer. Interphase mass transfer, mass transfer coefficient, 2-film theory. Analogies between momentum, heat and mass transfer. TEACHING The course is presented in form of lectures, tutorials and compulsory laboratory exercises. EXAMINATION Approved laboratory reports and an approved written examination with differentiated grades. COURSE GRADE SCALE: U, 3, 4, 5 ITEMS/CREDITS
