MTF303 Thermodynamics and electricity 15.0 ECTS credits | |
TIMEPERIOD: Vt 97 LANGUAGE:Swedish EXAMINER Marie Finnström Univ lekt PREREQUISITES MTF302 Force and motion, MAM083 Calculus and number systems, MAM084 Algebra, geometry. COURSE AIM To give the student basic knowledge of the fundamentals of thermodynamics and electricity and the ability to teach children such topics in elementary school. CONTENTS Thermodynamics: - fluid mechanics - temperature and heat - heat transfer: conduction, convection, radioactive - thermal properties of matter - the first and second laws of thermodynamics Electricity: - electric charge and electric field - sources of electric field - electric potential - capacitance and dielectrics - current, resistance, and electromotive force - direct-current circuits - magnetic field and magnetic forces - sources of magnetic filed - electromagnetic induction - inductance - alternating currents - electromagnetic waves TEACHING In addition to lessons with theory-explanation and problem-solving, the education consists of compulsory laboratory work and preparation of demonstrations to be presented to the other students either orally or in writing. The course will be characterised by high student activity.
In cooperation with the course MAM083 the students perform a 3 week period in an elementary school. A written report concludes this work.
