TIMEPERIOD: Q III LANGUAGE:English/Swedish EXAMINER Jan Paul Univ lekt PREREQUISITES MTF009, KMK03 or similar basic course in Materials Science or Inorganic Chemistry. COURSE AIM Grasp the importance of surface phenomena for applied problems. Understand modern methods for surface characterization. Be able to advice on suitable methods for surface characterization in an industrial environment. Be able to interpret results from said spectroscopies. CONTENTS We will discuss surface sensitive spectroscopic methods with emphasis on geometrical and electronic structure and chemical properties. We will also discuss how these properties vary with pretreatments and surface roughness. Ample examples of applied problems will be given to illustrate basic phenomena at surfaces. TEACHING Lectures and industrial site visits. EXAMINATION Homework, mandatory site visits and written exam. COURSE GRADE SCALE: U, 3, 4, 5 ITEMS/CREDITS | |
