COURSE AIM To present the basic concepts and tools of analytical mechanics. To make the student familiar with problem-solving techniques for important types of problems in mechanics. CONTENTS Principle of least action. Lagrange's equations in generalised coordinates. Invariances and conversation laws. Integration of the equations of motion. Kepler motion. Small oscillations. Motion of a rigid body. The inertia tensor. Euler's equations. Gyroscopic motion. TEACHING Lectures and problem-solving seminaries. EXAMINATION Written examination at the end of the course.
