COURSE AIM To provide an understanding of the nature of ergonomics Consultancies, how they work, how one can be started and what are the essential ingredients for developing them into a successful enterprise. CONTENTS The nature and structure of Consultancies; The role of Consultancies in the field of ergonomics; The market for ergonomics Consultancies; the essential ingredients for starting a Consultancy; Basic resources required; Type of services that can be provided; Financial control in a small business enterprise; Recruiting and staffing a Consultancy and qualifications of staff; Being an employer; Insurance and protection; Networking; Marketing ergonomics; Funding sources; Negotiating commissions; Writing proposals; Developing client relationships; Professional standards; Contributing to the field of ergonomics; Links with Ergonomics Societies; How to become successful. TEACHING The teaching will mainly be in the form of lectures and compulsory seminars. Each student will undertake compulsory practical work. EXAMINATION Written tests and coursework.
