ABB006, ABB007, ABS021 or courses equivalent to Elementary theory of structures and Elementary structural engineering

COURSE AIM
The aim of the course is to give knowledge in the design of glulam structures including detailing aspects.

CONTENTS
Beam Design (60%)
Codes. Bending and shear capacity of beams. Lateral flexure and flexural bucking of columns.
Joints (10%)
Common joints. Design of nail and bolt joints.
Roof Structures (30%)
Common roof structures. Design of nailed roof structures and trusses.

TEACHING
Project work: The structural design of a glulam frame for large building is assigned as a project work. Students work in pairs.
Seminar work: Special tasks concerning aspects of timber design according to Eurocode 5 are assigned as seminar work. Presentation and analysis of design aspects is performed in English.
