COURSE AIM
The aim of the course is to provide the students with knowledge of means of expressions, craftsmanship and aesthetics in ART and HANDICRAFTS, so they can use and develop these subjects in their future careers and also use them in pedagogical activities.


CONTENTS
The importance of design and colours for functions and appearances. Practical work with suitable tools using different materials and varying techniques in art and handicrafts. Crafts in different cultures.

-ART: with emphasis on design and colour: modelling, sculpture, pottery, painting, drawing and printing.
-HANDICRAFTS: woodwork for children as well as for adults, knowledge of materials and tools, wood-carving, tapestry and applications.
-Theme work: to use both ART and HANDICRAFTS in an integrated project.

TEACHING
The methods of working creatively and experimentally are characteristic for this course. Theoretical elements are integrated with practical work. The students choose different areas to specialize in. Theme work is extra-curricular.

EXAMINATION
The students will be graded on theme work and on the reports of course literature.
