COURSE AIM
The course should give the students advanced knowledge within the subject Geography, concentration on the processes that transform the ground of the earth, the significance of the climate and how the man use the ground of the earth for settlement and industry. Understanding of the great global ecosustems. The students should acquire knowledge and skills that make futher studies within the subject area Geography possible.


CONTENTS
ITEM 1. Geographical Methods
The item is itegrated in the other course items. Examples of practices are from this course item. Construction of thematical maps and user of computer- based methods for mapconstrution. Relevant statistics for geographer.
ITEM 2. Physical Geography
The item should give an in-depth understanding of endogenic and exogenicprocesses. The climate of the earth from a historical perspective in modern time and the significance of this for different geographical phenomena.
ITEM 3. The Swedish Landscape
The growth of the countryside and the city from a historical perspective, migration, settlement and urbanization. The beginning and development of the densley populated ares. The development and present situation of different regions.
ITEM 4. Project Work
The students should carry out a project within a chosen work area. They can work individual or in groups. A longer excursion is part of the course.


TEACHING
Lectures, lessons, groupe practices, laboratory work, seminars, individual and group assignments. Excursions and educational visits are part of every item, a longer excursion is part of item 4. There will be a small fee for the excursions and the educational visits. The excursions, educational visits and seminars are obligatory.


EXAMINATION
The students willbe graded on obligatory work assignments and written examinations. There will be an examination at the end of every item.

COURSE GRADE SCALE: Fail, Pass, Distinction.
