PÄP052 The Community and Children with Special Needs 22.5 ECTS credits | |
TIMEPERIOD: Q3-4 LANGUAGE:Swedish EXAMINER Majbritt Persson Univ adj PREREQUISITES Applicants must have completed the courses KSP046, PÄP044 and PÄS026. COURSE AIM The aims of the course are that students acquire understanding and knowledge of children who are in need of special support for their development, and of their families. The students are to learn a way of working that is based on the specific needs and possibilities of development of the individual child. The students are also to work on their own attitudes and values concerning children who need support in different ways. CONTENTS Children in need of special support for their development (physical, mental, social handicaps, immigrant and refugee children). Legislation applicable to the children and their families. Interest groups representing the children. Ethical issues and values that concern the children and their families. Factors that can influence the family, crises. Integration and work methods. To be bilingual, verbally and non-verbally. The computer as aids. In-depth study of professional secrecy and responsibility. Welfare and care from the perspective of the European Community. Memorandum, degree project. TEACHING An investigating method of working will be applied. Teaching methods, social science and methodology will be integrated. Expert consultation and study visits will also be included in the course. Co-operation with the Recreation instructor training programme. EXAMINATION Written and oral examination, individually and in group. Evaluation of the work placement period including assignments and a written report. COURSE GRADE SCALE: Fail, Pass.
