COURSE AIM The aims of the course are that students: - acquire in-depth knowledge of ecology, particularly the ecology of the Arctic area of the Scandinavian countries and the Kola Peninsula - from the sea to the tundra to the mountains - develop understanding of the ecological conditions of the development of an ecological society in the arctic area - acquire in-depth didactic knowledge of ecological studies, especially of the arctic area of the Scandinavian countries and the Kola Peninsula CONTENTS Ecological field studies of the northern part of the gulf of Bothnia, the taiga, the tundra and the mountains Systematic ecology focused on taiga, tundra and mountains Marine biology focused on marine environments in the Arctic area of the Scandinavian countries and the Kola Peninsula Reindeer breeding and its ecological consequences The fauna and flora of the mountain-district Ecological field studies and ecological didactics TEACHING The teaching will be problem-based in its main aspects and exercises and assignments will be done in groups. Lessons, laboratory work and exercises will be integrated. A field trip in the Arctic Area of the Scandinavian countries and the Kola peninsula is part of the course and will be paid for by the students themselves. Alternative teaching that is free of charge will also be offered. EXAMINATION Practical, oral and written presentation of group assignments and individual assignments. COURSE GRADE SCALE: Fail, Pass.
