MAM074 Computer Algebra with Maple 6.0 ECTS credits
TIMEPERIOD: LANGUAGE:Swedish EXAMINER T Gunnarsson Univ lekt PREREQUISITES COURSE AIM The course aims at teaching the participants what can be done, how it is done and why it is done the way it is done with Maple. CONTENTS The teaching consists of lectures, computer exercises and tutorials. The course can in its entirety or in part be taught in english. Maple is a general computer algebra program. It supports symbolic manipulation. This means that apart from numerical computations, plotting of curves and diagrams one can perform symbolic manipulations - differentiation, determination of primitive functions, solving equations, studying of differential equations etc. Hence one can let the computer do all routine computations, test hypotheses etc. It is also possible to write programs (or to use othe peoples programs) and to define your own functions in Maple. The teaching is for the most part in the form of computer laborations. TEACHING The teaching is in the form of shorter lectures in the computer laboratory. EXAMINATION Examination consists of handin exercises, a project and an exam (at the computer) at the end of the course for those who have handed in the handin exercises and the project. COURSE GRADE SCALE: 3, 4, 5 ITEMS/CREDITS
Project work | 0.00ECTS |

COURSE LITERATURE Redfern, Darren: The Maple Handbook, Springer-Verlag, latest edition (1996) Heck, André: Introduction to Maple, latest edition (1996) REMARKS The course is taught together with the corresponding course in MAM604. MAM074 can be read together with MAM095 (seminar on the history of mathematics) without scheduling conflicts (in spite of the fact they are both in module 4) |
