TIMEPERIOD:

LANGUAGE:English/Swedish

EXAMINER
Thomas Gustafsson Univ lekt

PREREQUISITES
Automatic Control, SMR017 or corresponding.

COURSE AIM
The course aims at learning the students some common methods for how to analyse and design control systems that utilizes a computer for performing the control task.

CONTENTS
The course is based on parts of the second edition of the classic book "Computer-Controlled Systems" by Karl-Johan Åström and Björn Wittenmark. The following subjects are treated:

-Introduction of basic concepts.
-Sampling of continuous-time signals.
-Simulation as a tool for investegating computer-controlled systems.
-Mathematical models of discrete-time systems.
-Analysis of discrete-time systems.
-Disturbance models.
-Digital approximation of analog controllers.
-State-space design methods.
-Pole-placement design based on input-output models (polynomial design).
-Pole-placement design for systems with actuator constraints.
-Implementation of digital controllers.

Laboratory exercises:

No.1 Some simulation exercises.
No.2 A computer-controlled system for rotation of wire-supported cargo.

TEACHING
The teaching consists of lectures (62%), exercises (18%) and laboratory exercises (20%).
