TIMEPERIOD: Q III LANGUAGE:Swedish EXAMINER Åke Sandström Univ lekt PREREQUISITES KMK019 COURSE AIM The coarse will give fundamental knowledge from a chemical as well as technical point of view regarding hydrometallurgical metal production from ores and concentrates. Teaching will be given on unit operations such as leaching, electrolysis, solvent extraction etc.. CONTENTS The extent of each part is given in %. Introduction (3%) Comparison of pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical process technology. Overview of hydrometallurgical unit operations and processes. Hydrometallurgical phase diagrams (6%) Description of Pourbaix diagrams. Leaching (44%) Overview of mineral raw materials suitable for leaching. Leaching theory, leaching methods and leaching systems. Laboratory: Leaching of a sulphide concentrate. Solution treatment (32%) Methods of leach solution treatment: filtering, precipitation, cementation, ion exchange, solvent extraction. Laboratory: Solvent extraction. Hydrometallurgical processes (15%) Description of hydrometallurgical applications. Environmental problems. TEACHING Lectures and compulsory laboratory exercises.
