KMK047 Structural Chemistry with Kinetics 6.0 ECTS credits | |
TIMEPERIOD: Q IV LANGUAGE: EXAMINER Lars Gunneriusson Univ lekt PREREQUISITES KMK043 or a corresponding course in general chemistry. COURSE AIM The course will give a good knowledge of in solid statte chemistry. Furthermore, the student shall obtain a fundamental knowledge of the mechanisms for corrosion, as well as techniques to prevent corrosion. The second part of the course will treat the rate laws for chemical reactions. Their mathematical treatment and connections with the underlying reacting mechanisms will also be discussed. CONTENTS The solid state, including the crystal systems, close packing and common structure types. Corrosion of metals. The rate of chemical reactions including reaction order and reaction mechanisms. The temperature dependence of reaction rates. Fundamental subjects as katalysis, activation energy and activated complexes. TEACHING The teching consists of projects, lessons and laboratory exercises. The first lesson is compulsory, as well as laboratory exercises, project meetings and presentations. EXAMINATION A written examination which is graded and passed laboratory reports.
