TIMEPERIOD: Q I LANGUAGE:Swedish EXAMINER Douglas Baxter Univ lekt PREREQUISITES Basic qualifications COURSE AIM The aim of the course is to provide the fundamental knowledge of chemistry necessary to understand how human activities affect the environment and its´natural cycles. CONTENTS In the introductory part of the course, the basic chemistry relevant to our environment will be studied, e.g; acid-base reactions and acidification, radical chemistry and depletion of the ozone layer. Then the environmental inpact of society´s need for energy, food, raw materials, etc, will be treated. TEACHING During the course, students will work in groups on an environmental chemistry project of current interest. The project findings will be reported in a seminar and as a web-page. The first lecture is compulsory for all students unless exemption is granted by the examiner. EXAMINATION Approved laboratory reports, home exercises and graded written examinations following each section of the course. COURSE GRADE SCALE: U,3,4,5 ITEMS/CREDITS | |
