TIMEPERIOD: Q III LANGUAGE:Swedish EXAMINER Esa Vuorinen Univ adj PREREQUISITES Basic knowledge of metallic and polymeric materials. COURSE AIM To provide the student with: -Basic knowledge of the structure, properties and performance of ceramic materials. -Knowledge of different systems and methods for surface treatment. -Deeper knowledge of the properties and production methods of polymeric materials. -Deeper knowledge of the properties and performance of metallic materials and training in the selection of materials. CONTENTS Ceramic Materials: Properties of ceramic materials and their dependence of the structure and the different steps in the production process will be treated. Powder properties, forming of powders, sintering mechanisms and methods, different processing methods and testing of mechanical properties. Properties and performance in use for conventional ceramics, glass, glassceramics, refractories and high performance ceramics are treated. Polymeric materials: Composites, rubber materials and design with polymeric materials. Surface treatment: Overview of the most common surface treatment methods. Aplication technologies and properties of the coatings will be treated. Metallic materials: Properties and use of ferrous and the technologically most important non-ferrous metallic materials will be treated. Powdermetallurgy. Procedure in the selection of materials.
