COURSE AIM
The course broadens the basic knowledge of fluid mechanics and gives experience of technologically important fluid phenomena. It will also give practice on today's research tools (experimental, analy- tical/numeric)used for flow studies.

CONTENTS
In the course the following areas are treated: 1) Separation and secondary flows, 2) Turbulence and turbulence modelling, 3) Density and thermal effects.

TEACHING
The teaching is divided into a theoretical part (~25%) followed by project work (~75%). The projects include experiments complemented with theory and/or numerical calculations. A number of experimental methods will be used such as Particle-Image-Velocimetry, Laser-Doppler Velocimetry, schlieren och high speed video, together with commercial programs for flow calculations (eg CFX).


EXAMINATION
Home work assignments on the theoretical parts and a written report on each project.
