PREREQUISITES
Basic course in strength of materials.

COURSE AIM
Improved ability to analyse and solve problems in solid mechanics. Extended knowledge in several areas of solid mechanics. Contact with research and technical applications. Practice in planning and accomplishing independent experimental or theoretical project work. Practice in written and oral presentation.

CONTENTS
The contents of the course is defined by a set of problems that are presented and discussed by the teacher and solved by the students during the course. Problems in the following areas are planned but changes can be made; Elasticity, Thermoelasticity, Fracture, Plasticity.
A part of the course (20%) is a project that is planned and accomplished by the students in groups. The project is an experimental or theoretical study of a problem in solid mechanics.

TEACHING


EXAMINATION
Grades are given based on written and oral presentation of both solved problems and project work. Written exam is not given.
