COURSE AIM
To get the student familiar with the foundations of modern optical measuring methods and to apply these methods in measurements in combination with computers.

CONTENTS
Period III
During the lessons, the following chapters in Gåsvik "Optical metrology" are treated. In connection to the lessons a series of experiments are demonstrated, see the list below.

Ch. Lessons: From Gåsvik 2nd ed.
1. Basics
3. Interference
4. Diffraction
6. Holography
7. Moire´techniques
8. Speckle methods
9. Photoelasticity and polarized light

Demonstrations:
1. Diffraction and filtering
2. Schlieren and shadowgraph
3. TV-holography and shearography
4. Double pulsed holography
5. Digital Speckle photography (DSP)
6. Moire´methods and projected fringes

Laboratory work, period III:
Two projects of 4 hours, one from each group A/B and C/D are performed or one larger project in one area. This depends upon the nomber of participants.
A. TV-holography and shearography
B. Pulsed holographic interferometry.
C. Electronic speckle photography (ESP)
D. Laser doppler anemometry (LDA)
A report is written for the projects.
This part of the course ends with a written examination of 4 hours.

Period IV
During the lessons, the following chapters in Gåsvik "Optical metrology" are treated. In connection to the lessons a series of experiments are shown, see the list below. Two invited lectures about fibre optics and optics construktion.

Ch. Lessons:
5. Light sources and detectors

11. Fringe analysis
12. Some other optical metrology techniques.

Demonstrations:
7. High speed cameras
8. The InfraRed (IR-)camera
9. Laser doppler anemometry

Laboratory work, period III:
Twor projects are performed. Mesurements are performed using microcomputers of PC - or MAC-type to collect, treat and present the data.

E. Opto components
F. Analyses of measured data
A report is written for each project.
