Basic courses in Structural Engineering

COURSE AIM
To give students a) basic knowledge in the behaviour of prestressed concrete structures including short- and long-term analyses, b) to give training in analyses and design of prestressed concrete beams with respect to bending and shear, and c) to give basic knowledge of pre- and post-tensioning technology.

CONTENTS
Material properties: Short-term and long-term deformations, creep and shrinhage of concrete. Short-term deformations and relaxation in steel.
Bending and shear; Choice of structural system. The design of prestressed concrete beams in the limit failure state as well as the short-term and the service limit states, respectively. Deformation of structures, and imposed actions of statically indetermined structures. Design Project: The design of a pretensioned beam and a post-tensioned slab, respectively.
