PREREQUISITES
General eligibility with at least grade 3 from a 3 year upper secondary school course programme or equivalent qualifications.


COURSE AIM
The aim of the course is to provide the students with basic skills for using French in speech and writing as well as to provide some knowledge of French cultural studies and 20th century literature.


CONTENTS
Module 1. Pronunciation and oral proficiency (3 credits)
Module 2. Grammar and written proficiency (4.5 credits)
Module 3. Modern literature (4.5 credits)
Module 4. Cultural studies and factual texts (3 credits)


TEACHING


EXAMINATION
Module 1. Speech proficiency will be assessed through active participation and established ability to use French reasonably correctly and fluently
(1.5 credits). Short test in phonetic transcription (1.5 credits).
Module 2. Translation test (3 credits). Essay assignment (1.5 credits).
Module 3. Active participation is required as is completion of the oral
(3 credits) and written assignments (1.5 credits).
Module 4. Active participation (1.5 credits) and written test (1.5 credits).
Students who do not pass the ordinary tests will have the opportunity to take a resit. All tests will be graded as above. To receive Pass with Distinction for the entire course that the students are required to have Pass with Distinction for at least 7.5 credits; which should include the translation test. The students that pass the tests can not resit them to obtain higher grades.
