PREREQUISITES
Three years in upper secondary school with at least grade 3 or equivalent qualifications.
COURSE AIM
The aim of the course is to provide post-upper secondary skills for using English in speech and writing, knowledge of grammar, British and American cultural studies, fiction with the focus on literature for children and young people as well as didactic/methodical familiarity with teaching English.
CONTENTS
Note: Modules that do not end with a written test are normally compulsory.
Module 1. Oral proficiency (1.5 credits ).
Module 2. British and American cultural studies (1.5 credits).
Module 3. Grammar and vocabulary studies (3 credits).
Module 4. Written proficiency (3 credits).
Module 5. Literary studies (3 credits).
Module 6. Didactics/methodology (3 credits ).
TEACHING
EXAMINATION
Module 1. The students will be graded on pronunciation and oral fluency. Individual test in English phonetics (1.5 credits).
Module 2. Written and/or oral test (1.5 credits).
Module 3. Individual test in English grammar, vocabulary and classroom English (2 credits).
Module 4. Continuous assessment of essay writing and creative writing
(1.5 credits).
Module 5. There will be an on-going discussion between the teacher and the students concerning the evaluation of the literary studies.
Carrying out class exercises on chosen intensive text (3 credits).
Module 6. Continuous assessment. Submitted assignments (3 credits).
Students who do not pass the ordinary tests will have the opportunity to take a resit. Absence from lessons where no tests are given may lead to supplementary assignments. All modules will be graded as above. To receive Pass on the course the students are required to have Pass on all modules of the course.
