PREREQUISITES
Three years of English in upper secondary school with at least grade 3 or equivalent qualifications.
COURSE AIM
The aim of the course is to provide basic proficiency in using English in speech and writing as well as knowledge and proficiency for teaching and other activities involving foreign languages.
CONTENTS
Module 1. Oral proficiency (6 credits).
Module 2. Cultural studies (4.5 credits).
Module 3. Grammar and vocabulary studies (7.5 credits).
Module 4. Written proficiency (6 credits).
Module 5. Literary studies, general direction (6 credits).
TEACHING
EXAMINATION
Note: Modules that do not end with a written test are normally compulsory.
Module 1. Written test and/or continuous assessment of English phonetics
(3 credits). The students will be graded on pronunciation and oral fluency
(3 credits).
Module 2. Written and/or oral test (4.5 credits).
Module 3. Written test in general and English grammar (4.5 credits). Written vocabulary test (3 credits).
Module 4. Written translation test (3 credits). Written test in essay writing
(3 credits).
Module 5. At the beginning of the course the students and teacher are to agree on the form of the examination.
Students who do not pass the ordinary tests will have the opportunity to take a resit. All tests will be graded as above. To receive Pass with Distinction for the course the students are required to have Pass with Distinction for at least 18 credits; which should include one of the translation tests and an essay. The students that pass the tests can not resit them to obtain higher grades.
