COURSE AIM
The course will be given as preparation for those attending the programme for European engineers that is taking place in Saarbrücken, Germany. The aim is to provide students that only have a basic knowledge of German with the equivalent to upper secondary school qualifications so they can profit by the teaching in Germany.


CONTENTS
Grammar (25%). Exercises aiming to attain linguistic correctness when speaking German as well as understanding more complex grammatical constructions. Grammar exercises and translation exercises.
Reading and writing course (25%). Reading shorter texts (non-fiction and newspaper texts and articles). Oral or written summaries.
Conversation course (35%). Pronunciation exercises, speech work and discussions connected with the course of cultural studies.
Cultural studies (15%). The course should provide an insight into the history, cultural life and social conditions of German-speaking countries. Oral summaries.


TEACHING
The greater part of the course consists of classes where active participation is required. There will be various pair and group exercises.


EXAMINATION
The course is assessed continuously through an active participation in writing and speech classes.
Written test divided into several parts with a monolingual grammar test and translation from and into German. The course will be graded as above. The students that pass the tests can not resit them to obtain higher grades.
