TIMEPERIOD: Q 1, 4 LANGUAGE:Swedish EXAMINER Leena Hamberg Univ adj PREREQUISITES Eligibility for course admission to begin studies on the educational programme for children and young people and the programme for compulsory school teachers. COURSE AIM The aim of the course is to provide students with a comprehensive picture of the structures and varieties of the Finnish language, so they can use the language correctly and variably in speech and writing. The course will also provide knowledge about basic literacy so that students can instruct children of different ages how to express themselves in speech and writing. CONTENTS - the distinctiveness of the Finnish language compared to the Indo- European languages, especially the Swedish language. - linguistic correctness - the language in varying speech and writing situations - exercises in reading and writing for Finnish-speaking children TEACHING - exercises in speech and writing - exercises in using dictionaries and other reference books as well as advisory bodies concerning linguistic correctness both in Finland and Sweden - lectures combined with practical exercises EXAMINATION The students will be graded on oral and written exercises.
