PREREQUISITES
General eligibility for course admission.
Students that choose a practical advanced course in the field rock and pop, requires some knowledge of chords on guitars and/or keyboards.

COURSE AIM
The aim of the course is to provide the students with knowledge of mass media and popular culture so they can pursue independent educational work with children pre-school and school age in this field.

CONTENTS
The course is divided in two modules, consisting of theory and practical
in-depth studies.
In the latter part the students have the option to choose between four fields: video, photo, sound and rock and pop music.

Theory:
Theory in mass media
Mass media in today's society
Evaluation of news
Communications
and their influences (especially advertising)
Mass media and children
Youth culture

Practice:
Exercises in art and music
Practical AV-education (specializing in video, photo or sound) or music education (pop and rock)

TEACHING
In the theory part seminars, in the practical part group exercises and to work on extended individual group assignments.

EXAMINATION
The students will be graded on group work reports and at the final seminar.
COURSE GRADE SCALE: Fail, Pass
