PREREQUISITES
Teacher training, nursery and infant teacher training or recreation instructor training. Priority admissions of those who are employed as compulsory school teachers, pre-school teachers or recreation instructors, since the course is based on continuos application on the participants' own school classes/groups of children.

COURSE AIM
The aims of the course are that the course participants acquire knowledge of: - Computers and society/the development of data technology - Interaction between people and computers - Computers and learning - Use of utility programs in teaching - Study and evaluation of educational software - Multimedia - Data transmission, Internet, the school computer network - Integration of computers into teaching The aims of the course are also that the course participants: - develop skills in using IT within either of the fields of multimedia, Internet/data communication and utility and/or learning programs - gain in-depth knowledge of methods for development work, planning, realization, evaluation and reporting - learn how to carry through and document investigations on IT and schools

CONTENTS
The course will focus on the computer as an educational tool and will have a practical, didactic approach. Other aspects of the course will be: - Learning, and in particular learning with the computer as a tool - Organizational and other consequences of the integration of computers into teaching - Computers and data transmission, school computer networks/Internet, multimedia, use of different types of soft and hard ware etc. - The course participants' own development work with the computer as an educational tool - Computer-based educational development work, report writing and concluding seminars - Instruction in educational methodology

TEACHING
Supervision and parts of the course will be carried through by means of computer conferencing. Course participants must have access to a PC or Macintosh with a modem, and will be supplied with clients to the computer conferencing program First Class. Participants should also have access to Internet. Teaching will take place at twelve different occasion in Luleå.

EXAMINATION
Evaluation of assignments during literature seminars and of report of the participant's individual work. Group work and seminars are compulsory.
COURSE GRADE SCALE: Fail, Pass.
