COURSE AIM The aims of the course are that students acquire basic knowledge of important historical context in older and modern history by studying political, economic and social states and changes. CONTENTS - Knowledge of the history of Norrbotten in a wider historical context. - Training in communicating knowledge of the history of Norrbotten and the visible tracks it has left in the region, such as monuments of ancient finds, the oldest inhabitants of Norrbotten, the Viking Age, the culture of the Laplanders, churches, trade, the working-class movement and Norrbotten in war and in peace. TEACHING The course will be given on part-time basis and will extend over one term. The group of students will meet at five different occasions. The meetings will take the form of lectures, seminars and oral presentations. Excursions and study trips to places of culture-historical interest will also be part of the course. Students will give continual accounts for the experiences and knowledge gained from these trips. EXAMINATION Written and oral examination, individually and in group.
