SME015 High Frequency Electronic Systems 6.0 ECTS credits | |
TIMEPERIOD: LANGUAGE:Swedish EXAMINER Åke Wisten Univ adj PREREQUISITES Circuit theory Recommended background: Electromagnetic fields. COURSE AIM Good knowledge of high frequency behaviour of electronic circuits. This means that the course shall treat phenomena appearing when wavelenghs are shorter than the conductors, in practice frequencies higher than 1 GHz. The student shall learn simple and advanced methods for high frequency measurements and practice computer simulation of transmission lines and circuits. Transmission of pulses is important, considering digital transmission of information. CONTENTS Basic electromagnetic field theory (9 %): Relations between charges, currents, voltages and electromagnetic fields. Maxwells equations. Transmission lines and printed boards. (61 %): Telegraph equation. Sine-shaped signals. Pulses. Reflections. Lossless lines and lossy lines. Distorsion. Smith diagram. Measurement of network parameters. Computer calculations on transmission lines and circuits. Computer programs for transmission lines and circuits. Computer networks. Waveguides. Radiation from circuits. Numerical solution of electromagnetic field problems (5 %): Short introduction to some methods. TEACHING LECTURES: Theory and problem solving. Demonstration of computer programs. LABORATIVE WORK (25 %): Waveguide measurements with conventional microwave equipment. Use of TDR (Time Domain Reflectometer), network analyser and spectrum analyser. Reducing of unwanted coupling between conductors by good design. How to make good terminations. EXAMINATION Compulsary problems during the course. Examination at the end of the course.
