TIMEPERIOD: III LANGUAGE:English/Swedish EXAMINER O Schelén 1 fo ing PREREQUISITES Following courses passed (or similar): SMD097 System Programming (or SMD083 Computer System Management), SMD011/SMD012/SMD038 Imperative Programming, SMD006/SMD103 Reactive Programming, SMD056 Program Construction (or SMD044 Imperative programming and a Program Project/SMD064 Software Engineering), SMD073 Data Structures, SMD066/SMD082 Processor/Software Interface and MAM053/MAM065 Discrete Mathematical Structures. Participated in SMD088 Computer Networks. COURSE AIM The course will give an introduction to current research on network architectures for data- and telecommunications. The students will practice their ability to read articles, write summaries and perform oral presentations. CONTENTS The following topics are covered: - Fiber Optics (essentials) - Cell Networking, ATM - Packet Networking, IPv6 - Operating Systems Issues - Application Demands - Traffic Shaping - Service Commitments - Flow Setup and Routing - Distributed Systems (essentials) Several research articles will be studied. The suggested ideas and solutions will be related to the current development of the Internet and the different transport networks. TEACHING Lectures, presentations and compulsory assignments.
