TIMEPERIOD: III LANGUAGE:English/Swedish EXAMINER O Schelén 1 fo ing PREREQUISITES Following courses passed (or similar): SMD097 System Programming (or SMD083 Computer System Management), SMD011/SMD012/SMD038 Imperative Programming, SMD006/SMD103 Reactive Programming, SMD056 Program Construction (or SMD044 Imperative programming and a Program Project/SMD064 Software Engineering), SMD073 Data Structures, SMD066/SMD082 Processor/Software Interface and MAM053/MAM065 Discrete Mathematical Structures. Participated in SMD088 Computer Networks. COURSE AIM The course will give an introduction to current research on network architectures for data- and telecommunications. The students will practice their ability to read articles, write summaries and perform oral presentations. CONTENTS The following topics are covered: - Fiber Optics (essentials) - Cell Networking, ATM - Packet Networking, IPv6 - Operating Systems Issues - Application Demands - Traffic Shaping - Service Commitments - Flow Setup and Routing - Distributed Systems (essentials)
Several research articles will be studied. The suggested ideas and solutions will be related to the current development of the Internet and the different transport networks.
