COURSE AIM
The course will give an deepened understanding into methods for cartographic visualisation. The course is intended for future cartographers who will be working with printed maps and to GIS users in general who want to work with simpler visualisation tools.
CONTENTS
Basic concepts, cartography present and past
Laws and regulations, map maintenance, archiving
Basic cartographic rules, visual variables, cartographic design
Reprographic techniques
Colour systems, colour synthesis, screening
Simple map presentations on laser printers and WWW
TEACHING
Lectures, seminar and laboratory work. Participation in seminar and laboratory work is compulsory. A compulsory assignment with a written report and oral presentation.
