COURSE AIM
The course gives a detailed knowledge about the processes used for production of different metals. material- and energy balances associated with these processes as well as an introduction to casting and casting methods. The ability to independent solve problems related to the metallurgical processes is given large emphasises in the course.

CONTENTS
Production of iron and steel (19%): Raw materials, sinter processes, blast furnaces, direct reduction processes, smelting reduction, electric steel processes, basic oxygen processes, production of speciality steel, refining
Production of non-ferrous metals (17%): Processes used in the production of copper, lead, zink, aluminium and ferroalloys. Development of new processes.
Environmental consequences of metal production (8%).
Material- and energy balances (4%).
Casting and solidificatin (18%).
Casting Methods (7%).
Field exercises, case study and study trip (27%).

TEACHING
The education consist of lectures, exercises, laboratory exercises, a field exercise, a case study and a study trip.
