KMK037 Physical Chemistry with Thermodynamics 6.0 ECTS credits

TIMEPERIOD:
Q IV

LANGUAGE:English/Swedish

EXAMINER
Allan Holmgren Univ lekt

PREREQUISITES
10 points in mathematics and MTF009 or a corresponding course.

COURSE AIM
The goal of the course is that the student, after completion of the course, should
- be well aquainted with the concepts: activity and partial molar quantities like the chemical potential.
- be able to apply thermodynamics to electrochemical- and destilation equilibria
- be well aquainted with the concepts of chemical kinetics
- be able to express thermodynamic quantities using partition functions
- be well aquainted with the origin of rotational, vibrational- and electron spectra

CONTENTS
The course covers chemical thermodynamics including electochemical equilibria. The following concepts are included: thermodynamical state functions, activity, partial molar quantities, colligative properties, electrochemical equilibria, chemical kinetics, partition functions and rotational- vibrational- and electron spectroscopy .The theory is applied to calculation- and laboratory exercises.

TEACHING
The course is presented in the form of lectures and laboratory excercises. The laboratory excercises are compulsory.

EXAMINATION
Approved laboratory reports and an approved written examination with differentiated grades.
COURSE GRADE SCALE: U,3,4,5
