PREREQUISITES
10 points in mathematics as well as one of the following courses: KMK002, KMK004, KMK013, KMK042 or a corresponding course.

COURSE AIM
The goal of the course is that the student, after completion of the course, should
- be able to explain the basic concepts in surface and colloid chemistry,
- have knowledge concerning colloidal particles´ kinetic and optical properties,
- be well aquainted with surface active substances association and wetting properties,
- have knowledge concerning factors that influence the stability of colloidal particles,
- be well aquainted with the concept of rheology,
- be able to perform simpler calculations on surface/colloidal systems

CONTENTS
The course covers the colloidal state, kinetic and optical properties, liquid-gas, liquid-liquid, solid-liquid and solid-gas interfaces, electrostatics, charged interfaces, colloidal stability, rheology as well as emulsions and foams. The theory is applied during the laboratory and calculation exercises.


TEACHING
The course is presented in the form of lectures and laboratory exercises. The laboratory exercised are compulsory.


EXAMINATION
Approved laboratory reports and an approved written examination with differentiated grades.
