TIMEPERIOD: Q IV LANGUAGE:Swedish EXAMINER Eva Molin Univ adj PREREQUISITES Basic qualifications. COURSE AIM The course provides basic knowledge in general chemistry that will facilitate the understanding of future chemistry courses. CONTENTS Fundamental concepts of chemistry, naming chemical compounds, chemical equations, concentration, stoichiometrical calculations, the ideal gas law, thermochemistry, enthalpi. The structure of the atom, chemical bonding, molecular-orbital theory, intermolecular forces. Thermodynamics : entropy, free energy, equilibrium constant. Chemical equilibrium : principles, acid-bas equilibria, solubility and complex-ion equilibria, electrochemistry. TEACHING The instruction consists of lectures, lessons and 3 compulsory laboratory classes. EXAMINATION A written examination which is graded, passed laboratory reports.
