TIMEPERIOD: LANGUAGE:Swedish EXAMINER Hans Theliander Prof PREREQUISITES Good knowledge of chemistry and chemical engineering. COURSE AIM The aim of the course is to inform the student about the techniques available for the production of different paper types. CONTENTS Introduction and basic terminology, Pulp production and grinding, Sieving, Fiber fundamentals, Material and water balances in paper mills, The chemistry of paper, Paper production equipment: forming, pressing, drying, Paper strength development upon drying, Physical properties of paper, Theories on paper bonding and strength, Opical properties of paper and pulp, Printing paper and printability, Surface properties and modification. TEACHING The course is presented in the form of lectures and laboratory exercises. The majority of the lectures will be given by specialists form AssiDomän, Piteå. The laboratory exercises will be performed at AssiDomän, Piteå. EXAMINATION An approved written examination with differentiated grades.
