TIMEPERIOD: Q I LANGUAGE:Swedish EXAMINER Esa Vuorinen Univ adj PREREQUISITES COURSE AIM The course will give an understanding of material (both metallic and polymers) properties and how they can be processed out of a theoretical point of view. CONTENTS Theory of the mechanical properties. Metallic materials: Atomic structures, atomic arrangements, the mechanism of deformation, basic dislocation theory, diffusion, phase equilibrium, phase diagrams, thermal processing, creep, fabrication and corrosion. Polymers: Polymer structure, molecular weight, crystallinity, glass transition, viscoelasticity, rubber, yielding and deformation mechanisms. TEACHING Lectures, exercises and laboratory work.
