MPP003 Polymeric Composite Materials 6.0 ECTS credits | |
TIMEPERIOD: Q IV LANGUAGE:English EXAMINER L Berglund Prof PREREQUISITES Basic knowledge of materials science COURSE AIM The course provides an understanding of the relationship between structure and the mechanical properties of polymeric fiber composites. This understanding forms the basis for materials selection, design considerations and failure analysis of polymer structures subjected to mechanical and thermal loads. CONTENTS Constituents Structure and properties of fibers, matrices and interfaces. Processing aspects of the matrix. Geometrical aspects Short fiber composites, fiber length and orientation distributions, porosity. Stiffness Micromechanics relationships, stiffness of unidirectional composite layers, laminate stiffness. Residual strains. Failure Failure of unidirectional composites, mechanisms and models. Failure of laminates. Environmental effects. Fatigue. Short fiber composites. TEACHING Lectures and laboratory work EXAMINATION Written examination at the end of the course.
