TIMEPERIOD: Q IV LANGUAGE:English EXAMINER Richard Warren Prof PREREQUISITES Basic knowledge in materials science COURSE AIM The aim of the course is to give a deeper understanding of ceramic and metal matrix composites. CONTENTS Introduction and applications. Reinforcements, preparation, structure, properties, Weibull-type treatments. Micromechanics of ceramic matrix composites, residual stresses, high temperature behaviour, toughening mechanisms. Metal matrix composites, micromechanics, physical properties, high temperature stability, chemical compatibility, oxidation. TEACHING Lectures, tutorials, laboratory exercises including homework. Participation in laboratory exercises is obligatory. EXAMINATION Written examination at the end of the course. COURSE GRADE SCALE: ITEMS/CREDITS | |
