PREREQUISITES
Quantum Physics.

COURSE AIM
The purpose is to present the basic theory of atomic physics, with special attention to its foundations in quantum physics. In addition, an important aspect will be the experimental visulization of atomic physics, in particular through applied analytical methods.


CONTENTS
The structure of atoms and molecules, interaction with electric and magnetic fields, radiation and scattering processes. Spectroscopical methods as applied in research and industrial and environmental laboratories, utilizing X-rays, photo electrons (e.g. XPS and ESCA analysis), magnetic resonance (ESR and NMR), microwaves and light (IR, visible, UV and Raman scattering).

Laboratory exercises to accompany the therotical course.

TEACHING
Class lectures covers theory in addition to problem solution seminars. Compulsory seminar work and laboratory exercises.
