TIMEPERIOD: LANGUAGE:English/Swedish EXAMINER Stig Karlsson Univ adj PREREQUISITES Anatomy and Physiology (ARA010), Physical and Chemical Environmental Techniques (ARF005), or equivalent courses. COURSE AIM The course shall give basic methodological knowledge of workplace analysis and workplace designThe students should learn how to design work and workplaces that combine a good work environment together with efficient productivity using the basic ergonomic principles. The course will take into account human needs and conditions in terms of gender, age, disability, ethnic, cultural and social background. CONTENTS Work analysis (10%). Methods for task analysis, work environment, and work demands. Direct observation, field studies, interviews and questionnaires. Systematic documentation. Video technique (10%). Video recording as a means of documenting work movements and work place design. Work place design (50%). Methods for the design of workplaces with respect to anthropometric data, criteria for working postures and physical environment. Modeling (15%). How models can be used in workplace design, as idea models, planning models, functional models, and prototypes. Training in model construction. Accidents and protection at work (5%). Theoretical studies of accidents. Methods for hazard analysis. Fire security, industrial and workplace layout, machine safety. In-depth study of elimination techniques (10%). In-depth study of different elimination techniques and practical applications with respect to musculoskeletal load, physical and chemical environment. TEACHING The course is divided into two parts; one preparatory lecturing part with related laboratory work, and one part with project work. Taking part in lectures and laboratory work is mandatory. The project work consists of analysis of existing workplaces, as well as simulations and modelling of workplaces. EXAMINATION Approved written laboratory reports. Written report of project work.
